Top five barrels of the vintage.
100% Diamond Mountain District
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
100% New French Oak
Diamond Mountain Vineyard is on the ridge top at over 2100 feet above the valley floor. We have access to 2 acres of the 35 years old vines of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from 3-4
different blocks in this 40 acre vineyard. The ridge top location provides perfect sun exposure and the different clones add to the complexity of our powerful yet elegant wine. Stress from the lean
volcanic soil results in loose clusters and small thick skinned berries that are full flavored and complex. The wines from this exclusive vineyard are cellar worthy collectibles and will greatly
reward your patience.
In 2011 En Garde started sourcing from the wide range of hillsides of Sori Bricco Vineyard on Diamond Mountain for our high elevation Cabernet program. Sori Bricco meaning “sunny hillside” in Italian. The climate is very warm in the early spring and these vines are among the first to bud each year. Originally planted in 1968, and it is one of the pioneer vineyards in the AVA. 30 years later, Lindy Johnson acquired the vineyard and hired the very talented Tony Mitchell Vineyard Management Company to handle all of the farming. Modern technology paired with innovative trellising results in super high quality fruit year after year. The soil is composed of a sandy, gravelly loam and the vines tend to be very small as they struggle against the slopes. The warm summer months produce nice, juicy flavors, while the cooler nights offer long hang time to gain tannin maturity each season.
